What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be responsible for the oversight of Amgen’s U.S. leaves of absence, disability, and wellness programs. This individual ensures compliance with federal and state leave regulations, manages external vendor relationships, oversees wellness programs, and provides leadership to and collaboration with team members supporting leave and wellness administration. The role serves as a critical partner to HR, payroll, staff relations, occupational health, legal, and external providers to deliver a seamless and positive employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
Leave of Absence & Disability Administration
- Oversee the design and compliance of U.S. leave of absence and disability programs (federal, state, and company-sponsored) and act as a subject matter expert for these areas.
- Partner with legal, payroll, staff relations and HR compliance to ensure adherence to and understanding of FMLA, ADA, state-specific leave laws, and ERISA.
- Evaluate program performance, benchmark against market best practices, and recommend design, policy or vendor enhancements.
- Lead vendor management for leave and disability partners, ensuring high-quality employee service and data accuracy.
- Develop employee and manager education tools to simplify the leave experience.
- Maintain proactive awareness of new leave and disability regulations; prepare vendors and internal stakeholders for implementation
Wellness & Employee Experience
- Manage global wellness programs, U.S. wellness initiatives, and onsite amenities (e.g., wellness rooms, fitness centers & child care programs).
- Partner with vendors and internal stakeholders to deliver wellness programming that supports employee health, well-being, and work-life balance.
- Oversee the development and distribution of benefits and wellness communications, including legal notices and enrollment materials.
- Train HR staff and call-center teams on leave, disability, and wellness programs to ensure consistent employee support.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide leadership and guidance to benefit and leave administration team members supporting leave and wellness functions.
- Collaborate with HRBPs, staff relations, legal, occupational health, and HR leadership on program design, policy interpretation, and regulatory requirements and changes.
- Collaborate with global and cross-functional teams to ensure consistency and scalability of leave of absence programs and well-being initiatives.
- Provide guidance and support to benefit operations team and HR business partners on complex leave and wellness issues.
- Support HR change management, M&A activities, and integration of acquired employees into Amgen leave and wellness programs.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree
Or
Master’s degree and 2 years of Human Resources/Leave of Absence/Benefits experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Human Resources/Leave of Absence/Benefits experience
Or
Associate’s degree and 8 years of Human Resources/Leave of Absence/Benefits experience
Or
High school diploma/GED and 10 years of Human Resources/Leave of Absence/Benefits experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing leave of absence, disability, and/or wellness programs in a complex HR environment.
- Demonstrated vendor management skills with a focus on accountability and performance monitoring.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state leave laws and disability regulations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop employee-facing materials and train HR staff.
- Workday or other HRIS system experience preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills, customer-service orientation, and ability to manage sensitive employee situations with discretion.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
