We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic finance professional to join Amgen Japan as Senior Manager – Financial Reporting & Transformation (AKK/ABGK).
This role serves as the accounting lead for both the ongoing financial reporting activities of Amgen K.K. (AKK) and the establishment and finance operating model of ABGK, a newly created accounting entity supporting Amgen's future biosimilar and biosame business.
As a senior individual contributor, this position provides strategic leadership across financial reporting, statutory compliance, finance transformation, ERP implementation, governance, and accounting process excellence. The successful candidate will shape the future-state finance operating model while ensuring the integrity of financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
Working across Finance, FP&A, Shared Services, Tax, IT, Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Commercial and global stakeholders, this role will influence key business decisions, drive enterprise-wide finance initiatives, and establish scalable accounting processes that support Amgen's long-term growth strategy.
Although this role has no direct people management responsibility, it requires strong leadership through influence, executive stakeholder management, and the ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Controllership Leadership
- Own and provide strategic oversight of the end-to-end Record-to-Report (R2R) process for AKK, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting.
- Serve as the accounting subject matter expert for complex accounting matters, statutory reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead statutory financial reporting and external audit activities while ensuring compliance with Japanese regulatory requirements and Amgen global accounting policies.
- Partner with Tax to oversee statutory tax reporting and ensure appropriate governance over tax-related accounting activities.
- Provide technical accounting guidance for new business initiatives, strategic investments, and complex accounting transactions.
- Continuously evaluate financial reporting risks and strengthen governance, controls, and compliance frameworks.
Finance Transformation & Digital Enablement
- Lead finance transformation initiatives supporting SAP ECC enhancements and SAP S/4HANA implementation.
- Define future-state accounting processes and finance operating models to improve efficiency, scalability, and internal control effectiveness.
- Provide leadership throughout system implementation, including business requirements, process design, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), defect remediation, and stabilization.
- Champion digitalization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance accounting operations and reporting capabilities.
- Drive standardization and simplification of accounting processes aligned with Amgen's global finance strategy.
ABGK Finance Operating Model
- Lead the establishment of the accounting and financial reporting framework for ABGK, ensuring operational readiness for future business expansion.
- Design scalable accounting policies, governance structures, statutory reporting processes, and tax compliance frameworks for the new entity.
- Establish effective service delivery and governance models with Shared Services and other Amgen entities through Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Partner with FP&A to develop robust cost management, budgeting, and project accounting processes supporting business operations.
- Provide strategic oversight for finance readiness activities across system implementation, process integration, and business launch planning.
Strategic Business Partnership
- Act as a trusted advisor to Finance leadership and business partners on accounting, financial reporting, governance, and transformation initiatives.
- Influence cross-functional decision-making by providing accounting expertise across Finance, FP&A, IT, Regulatory, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Commercial organizations.
- Lead complex cross-functional initiatives that require alignment across multiple functions and global stakeholders.
- Anticipate business risks, identify opportunities for operational excellence, and develop practical solutions that support organizational objectives.
- Drive governance, issue resolution, executive reporting, and stakeholder communications for strategic finance initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- Japanese Certified Public Accountant (JCPA) certification is strongly preferred.
- US CPA or other internationally recognized accounting qualification is also highly regarded.
- MBA or Master's degree is an advantage.
Professional Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in financial reporting, controllership, or finance within a multinational organization.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex accounting and finance transformation initiatives.
- Deep expertise in Record-to-Report (R2R), financial reporting, statutory reporting, and accounting governance.
- Strong knowledge of Japanese statutory reporting, tax compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience partnering with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities.
- Significant experience with SAP ECC and finance ERP systems; hands-on experience supporting SAP S/4HANA implementation is strongly preferred.
- Experience leading finance system implementations, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), business process redesign, and post-go-live stabilization.
- Proven track record driving process simplification, automation, and finance transformation.
- Strong understanding of SOX/J-SOX, internal controls, and governance frameworks.
- Experience supporting strategic projects, new business models, legal entity setup, or organizational transformation is highly desirable.
