Through strategic Oncology Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement, faculty development, and the execution of national and regional Peer-to-Peer (P2P) educational programs, the Brand Engagement Manager delivers the underlying intent of the brand strategy accurately and effectively to support evidence-based treatment decisions, elevate standards of care, and improve patient outcomes in Japan.
The role reports to the Brand Engagement Lead within the Oncology Business Unit and works closely with Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
The Brand Engagement Manager is responsible for identifying, engaging, and developing a network of oncology faculty and KOLs with a strong understanding of Amgen products, clinical evidence, treatment landscapes, and unmet patient needs. Through these partnerships, the role contributes to the development and execution of high-quality scientific and educational programs that support optimal patient care.
The role also provides support to Medical Representatives (MRs) and District Sales Managers through KOL insights, faculty recommendations, regional engagement planning, and educational initiatives.
This role is expected to demonstrate flexibility in prioritizing activities according to brand strategy, market dynamics, data milestones, and product lifecycle stages within the oncology portfolio. Prioritization and focus areas are determined in alignment with the Brand Engagement Lead.
Key Responsibilities
Oncology KOL Engagement and Faculty Management
Regional Faculty Mapping
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a comprehensive regional oncology faculty map, identifying established and emerging KOLs based on scientific expertise, influence, leadership positions, publication activity, and strategic alignment.
- Recommend appropriate faculty members and speakers for regional educational programs.
Faculty Engagement and Development
- Build and maintain long-term strategic relationships with oncology KOLs and faculty members through both face-to-face and virtual engagements.
- Communicate key clinical evidence, treatment paradigms, unmet medical needs, and brand strategy in alignment with compliance requirements.
- Identify opportunities to develop emerging faculty and support their progression as scientific advocates and educational contributors.
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs to ensure scientific alignment and effective stakeholder engagement.
Speaker Management
- Manage speaker communication, contracting processes, presentation development, slide review coordination, and approval workflows.
- Partner with Compliance, Medical Affairs, and external faculty to ensure educational content meets internal and external requirements.
- Drive continuous speaker development through coaching and feedback.
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Strategy and Execution
P2P Speaker Evaluation and Development
- Assess speaker effectiveness through structured post-event evaluations.
- Provide feedback to faculty members and identify development opportunities to continuously improve educational impact and engagement quality.
Regional P2P Support
- Support regional educational initiatives through faculty recommendations, speaker evaluations, and sharing of engagement best practices.
- Provide consultation to district teams to enhance the quality and effectiveness of local educational programs.
Faculty Strategy
- Execute national faculty strategy within assigned oncology disease areas.
- Identify, assess, and recommend faculty members based on scientific expertise, influence, clinical leadership, strategic importance, and future potential.
- Develop and maintain faculty engagement plans to support business objectives and patient-centered outcomes.
- Support execution of faculty meetings, advisory boards, congress-related activities, and strategic educational initiatives.
Area Plan Enablement
- Review and provide feedback on Business Planning Frameworks (BPFs), Plans of Action (POAs), and area plans developed by Marketing and Sales teams.
- Incorporate KOL insights and field perspectives to strengthen tactical execution and customer engagement strategies.
Cross-Functional Projects
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives to provide oncology stakeholder insights and contribute expertise to strategic projects.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Compliance to ensure aligned execution of customer engagement plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in Oncology, including KOL engagement, stakeholder management, marketing, medical, sales, or related functions.
- Proven experience developing and managing oncology KOL and faculty networks.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and executing regional educational programs, congress activities, and speaker development initiatives.
- Strong understanding of oncology treatment landscapes, clinical evidence generation, and stakeholder dynamics.
- Excellent negotiation, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Understanding of adult learning principles and effective educational program design.
- Ability to perform effectively in a hybrid work environment.
- Fluent Japanese and business-level English, including the ability to interpret scientific literature, clinical publications, and congress materials.
