Undergrad Intern - Process Development (Summer 2026)
This could be your everyday
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. Operations is one of the three foundational functions at Amgen with a mission to be consistent and efficient in delivering safe and effective medicines around the world. Operations manufactures and delivers Amgen therapeutics to our patients. Made up of five functions: Global Supply Chain, Process Development, Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering, and spread across several sites, Operations’ aspiration is simple: Ensure patients have access to the Amgen products they need. Every patient, every time.
Process development (PD) is the department within Operations that takes molecules from Research & Development and turns them into products which can be manufactured for therapeutic use. With the support of their hiring manager, the PD intern will complete a lab-based project in one of the following areas: Drug Substance Technologies, Attribute Sciences, Manufacturing and Clinical Supply, Digital Strategy & Capabilities, Drug Product Technologies, or Combination Product Operations. The intern will be responsible for rigorously conducting and documenting their experiments as well as analyzing and interpreting data into meaningful, business-influencing outcomes, and then communicating this process to their team in a clear and compelling manner.
In conjunction with the project work, interns will have the opportunity for professional development through training sessions, an executive speaker series, lab and facilities tours, one-on-one mentoring, and various networking events. Interns will also be able to interact with peers at Amgen-sponsored social events.
Example projects from previous internships:
- Drug Substance Technology – Development of Single-Pass Tangential Flow UF/DF Unit Operation for Production of Ultra-High Concentration Drug Substance
- Attribute Sciences – Advancement of Activity Assays for Key Residual Host Cell Proteins
- Drug Product Technology – Using Mass Spectrometry as an In-line Process Analytical Tool for Lyophilization
- Combination Product Operations – Gathering Patient and Internal Stakeholder Insights to Improve Combination Products and Processes
