What you will do

The Executive Director, Market Access (ED) is a critical leadership role in Amgen’s Market Access organization & will report to the Associate Vice President for the Market Access team. The ED leads a team of National Account Directors (NADs), National Account Managers (NAMs), and East Regional Account team that is responsible for ensuring optimal product coverage and access for Amgen’s entire product portfolio. Primary customers include decision makers at large National Payers & PBMs including Cigna, Express Scripts, Ascent, Prime, Synergie, Humana, and Anthem.
The ED will create a strategic vision and plan for the team and then drive the strategic execution around business opportunities with these important accounts. Responsibilities include engaging with and influencing key customers in collaboration with the team in order to compliantly deliver quality access for Amgen’s product portfolio. The ED will interact and develop deep relationships with senior leadership at National Accounts to understand the needs of customer organizations, identify engagement opportunities, promote Amgen brands, and negotiate contracts.
The ED will engage internal partners across the portfolio to bring value for both customers and Amgen. Success in this role will require close collaboration with the Coverage & Pricing (C&P) teams, Contract Development, and a broad cross-functional team including the medical organization. The ED will also work with a cross-functional team at Amgen to ensure the field-based sales teams have the support required to be successful, including working with brand marketing on promotional materials and messages and working with sales operations to help drive pull-through. The ED will provide deep payer insights and serve as a content expert for peri-launch products and in-line products. The ED will also be dedicated to coaching and talent development, drawing on a range of leadership styles and developmental experiences.

Business, Industry, & Customer Acumen- Developing, deploying, and enhancing deep and broad requisite knowledge of the U.S. healthcare ecosystem, Amgen, and our customers in order to build evidence-based solutions that create value
Strategic Agility & Account Planning-Navigating among different modes (analytical, strategic, creative, and systemic) to “connect the dots” among multiple variables in the healthcare ecosystem in order to generate insights, quickly formulate strategies, and act

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree & 6 years of market access experience OR
Master’s degree & 10 years of market access experience OR
Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of market access experience AND
6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Market Access roles involving contracting with large payers and PBMs
Leadership skills, with at least 5 years of experience directly managing others
Experience leading cross-functional teams
Business leader with executive presence who is subject matter expert in Market Access, Reimbursement, Contracting and the evolving payer landscape
Experience creating quality access in Market Access roles
Experience developing and implementing strategic initiatives with cross-functional Business Units that successfully enable access and demand creation in key accounts
Experience working with Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), Health Outcomes & Pharmacoeconomics (HOPE) MSLs/Field HEOR Managers, Medical platform or policy development and opinion leader engagement
Communication and presentation skills including experience with executive-level audiences
Negotiation skills, business, and financial acumen
Knowledge and experience in therapeutic areas including Cardiology, Oncology, Rheumatology, Bone Health, and Neuroscience
Ability to take initiative, impart energy and enthusiasm, and work in teams
Advanced degree, e.g., MBA, MPH, PharmD
