Engineer II
Duties: Support the Corporate Environmental Sustainability program by developing, tracking, and reporting energy, carbon, water, and waste reduction metrics across global sites, with primary focus on refrigeration and cold room systems; Provide sustainability and environmental performance support for refrigeration and cold room projects, including CO (R744), ammonia, and other low-GWP systems within GMP-regulated environments; Assist with technical reviews of refrigeration and cold room project documentation including specifications, load calculations, controls, and performance data to support energy efficiency and sustainability goals, under the guidance of senior engineers or subject matter expert; Support refrigerant transition and decarbonization efforts by collecting asset inventories, operational data, and emissions inputs for existing refrigeration systems, and documenting findings for evaluation by senior engineering staff; Support analysis of refrigeration system–specific energy and operational data using established methodologies to assist senior staff in evaluating potential energy-efficiency and emissions reduction opportunities; 6. Support alignment of refrigeration and cold room projects with environmental regulations, refrigerant standards including Environmental Protection Agency, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, and International Organization for Standardization, and corporate sustainability frameworks, ensuring technical compliance across global sites; Collaborate with engineering, facilities, quality, and sustainability teams to coordinate data, documentation, and sustainability deliverables associated with refrigeration projects; Maintain technical awareness of emerging refrigeration sustainability standards, regulatory changes, and industry best practices, including natural refrigerants and advancements in energy-efficient cold chain technologies; Assist in preparing sustainability documentation, analyses, reports, and preliminary assessments, including energy, emissions, cost-impact, water, and waste reduction opportunities using established templates; Support measurement and verification activities and benchmarking in accordance with established M&V protocols; Support coordination and participation in external sustainability initiatives, including the MIT CEP Energy Prize sponsorship and the BioPhorum Sustainability Water Workstream, by assisting with documentation, communications, and material preparation in alignment with corporate sustainability objectives; Assist with data compilation, documentation, and coordination activities related to ENERGY STAR award submissions and other sustainability recognition programs, including support for third-party audit processes; and Support development and implementation of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure initiatives at existing sites by assisting with data analysis, documentation, and coordination activities. May telecommute.
Requirements: Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering or related field & 1 year of experience in the job offered or in an engineering-related occupation. Position requires 1 year of experience in the following:
- Supporting sustainability, energy efficiency, or environmental engineering projects within GMP-regulated biotech manufacturing environments;
- Applying measurement & verification principles to collect, calculate, and report energy performance data and support savings verification activities;
- Supporting conservation-focused or sustainability improvement projects under the direction of senior staff;
- Supporting water reduction initiatives by applying quantitative water balance analyses to calculate and document estimated water savings and water efficiency improvement opportunities for industrial or GMP-regulated manufacturing systems, including Purified Water (PW) and Water for Injection (WFI);
- Working on industrial refrigeration systems, including industrial-scale CO (R744) and other low-GWP refrigerants;
- Supporting sustainability reporting activities and environmental performance metrics calculations, including data preparation for Environmental, Social, and Governance and Carbon Disclosure Project reporting, using defined tools and templates;
- Supporting calculation of scope 1 and scope 2 emissions estimates for refrigeration systems; \Supporting third-party energy performance validation programs or audits, including data collection and documentation for recognition programs such as ENERGY STAR;
- Supporting financial justification analyses including: Net Present Value, Rate of Return, and Simple Payback for sustainability initiatives;
- Enterprise ChatGPT modelling for business and engineering analysis; and
- PI Enterprise to extract and analyze energy, water, and operational data to support sustainability and performance assessments.
Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP-IT or CMVP) certification required.

Job type: Full-Time position. The annual salary range for this position in the U.S. is $97,109.00 - $131,383.00 per year. Also, this position offers stock, retirement, medical, life and disability insurance and eligibility for an annual bonus or for sales roles, other incentive compensation. The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
