Director, Executive Learning & Development

What you will do

In this vital role Amgen is seeking an Director of Executive Learning & Development to shape and lead our global approach to executive and key talent development. This role is accountable for setting a clear strategy, building high-impact programs, and collaborating across the business to ensure our leaders are prepared to lead through change and grow with purpose.

In this role, you’ll go beyond HR—partnering with learning leaders, business executives, and external thought leaders to evolve how we think about leadership, learning, and effectiveness at the most senior levels. You’ll also lead a strong team and have the opportunity to influence key moments that matter in a leader’s journey at Amgen.

This role sits within the Global Talent COE and reports to the Vice President of Global Talent. It will require strong cross-functional partnership with business leaders, HRBPs, technology and analytics teams, and external vendors to ensure the development philosophy and programs are relevant, scalable, and forward-thinking.

Responsibilities

Priorities can often shift in a fast-paced, matrixed environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Lead a global team responsible for various aspects of senior leader development, executive coaching, emerging leader programs, VP onboarding, and Team, Leader and Organizational effectiveness.

  • Set and drive the strategy for Amgen’s global executive development program portfolio, ensuring alignment with business priorities, leadership imperatives, and Amgen’s Leadership Attributes.

  • Oversee the design, execution, and continuous improvement of high-impact executive and key talent development experiences—working closely with senior leaders, stakeholders across HR, and trusted external partners.

  • Design and implement an integrated executive coaching strategy, including VP assimilation and onboarding, maintaining strong vendor relationships and coaching standards.

  • Champion Amgen’s high-potential talent development strategy, overseeing the delivery and evolution of key global programs to meet future leadership needs.

  • Own and evolve with the team Amgen’s FlexSpace ways of working ensuring thoughtful change management and seamless integration into the broader talent and culture ecosystem.

  • Develop and advance Amgen’s culture and leadership behaviors through social architecture, aligned development efforts, and embedded change practices.

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Team & Leader Effectiveness capability, including leadership coaching, team chartering, and other scalable organizational effectiveness offerings.

  • Facilitate in-person and virtual learning experiences and workshops that build key leadership capabilities across leadership populations.

  • Leverage data and stakeholder input to define and diagnose leadership capability gaps and prioritize targeted development solutions.

  • Collaborate closely with Talent Management and HR Business Partners to deliver tailored development plans for high-potential leaders and teams.

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of 5–6 professionals, fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and accountability.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Human Resources experience

Or

Master’s degree and 8 years of Human Resources experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of Human Resources experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 4 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven track record leading executive development and/or organizational effectiveness programs at scale

  • Strong executive presence and communication skills with the ability to influence at senior levels

  • Experience designing and facilitating executive-level learning experiences

  • Deep understanding of leadership development, coaching, and talent strategy and philosophies

  • Experience leading global teams and managing external vendor relationships

  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to think strategically while also managing operational details effectively

  • Curiosity around new technologies, and a progressive view on how new technologies can be leveraged to accelerate leaders’ learnings.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
