What you will do

In this vital role of Neural Nexus – Decision Intelligence & Agentic AI, Senior Director, you will lead the evolution of how Amgen translates data, AI, and advanced analytics into real-time, workflow-embedded decision systems that directly shape business actions and patient impact. This role is not a traditional data science leadership position—it is a decision intelligence and AI product leadership role, responsible for architecting and scaling intelligent systems that move beyond data and insights into repeatable, measurable, and operationalized decision-making capabilities.
You will operate as an embedded strategic partner to Commercial, Medical, and cross-functional leadership, co-owning key business decisions and rapidly translating high-value opportunities into scalable AI-driven solutions. Leveraging a rapid deployment operating model, you will lead teams to quickly diagnose problems, deploy proof-of-value solutions, and scale successful innovations into enterprise capabilities.
This role expands beyond traditional commercial analytics by integrating diverse, cross-domain data sources—including medical, scientific, real-world, and unstructured data—to create unified intelligence layers that power next-generation decision ecosystems. You will partner closely with GCCI, Commercial, Medical, ATMOS teams to deliver agentic AI-enabled solutions that are scalable, compliant, and embedded directly into business workflows.
This is a Flexible commuter role to one of two US Sites, in Thousand Oaks, CA, or Deerfield, IL. You will work on-site a minimum of 3 days a week.
Strategic Leadership & Enterprise Roadmap Development
- Define and own the strategic vision for Decision Intelligence and Agentic AI systems, focusing on the development of workflow-embedded, AI-driven decision capabilities that extend beyond traditional analytics and reporting
- Identify, prioritize, and shape high-impact opportunities across Commercial, Medical, and enterprise functions, ensuring alignment to business-critical decisions, value drivers, and patient impact outcomes
- Establish and institutionalize an AI rapid deployment operating model that rapidly identifies high-value problems, deploys proof-of-value solutions within compressed timelines, and scales successful solutions into enterprise-grade capabilities
- Act as a thought leader in translating advanced AI, agentic systems, and decision intelligence concepts into tangible, measurable business value, ensuring alignment with regulatory and compliance requirements
- Drive the creation of reusable decision frameworks, AI blueprints, and scalable solution patterns that can be deployed across brands, functions, and geographies
End-to-End Patient & Customer Journey Decision Intelligence
- Oversee and orchestrate the full lifecycle of Decision Intelligence products and Agentic AI solutions, from problem framing through scaled deployment and continuous optimization
- Lead rapid, hypothesis-driven problem structuring in partnership with business stakeholders, ensuring clear articulation of decision points, success metrics, and value potential
- Partner with GCCI/BAI - Analytics, Data Science, and ATMOS teams to guide model selection, development, and deployment, ensuring outputs are directly aligned to business decisions and operational workflows
- Drive rapid development execution, enabling agile prototyping, testing, and iteration of AI solutions with a focus on speed-to-value and scalability
- Ensure solutions are built as modular, reusable, and scalable decision products, not one-off analytical outputs
- Establish robust monitoring, feedback loops, and continuous improvement processes to ensure sustained performance, adoption, and business impact
- Leverage deep knowledge of Commercial and Medical data ecosystems to construct integrated end-to-end views of patient and customer journeys including claims, specialty pharmacy, CRM, payer, omnichannel engagement, scientific exchange, congress, and digital data into cohesive journey intelligence frameworks
- Identify actionable leverage points across the journey to enhance education, engagement quality, and treatment adoption
- Translate journey intelligence into AI-enabled recommendations embedded directly into field, brand, and medical workflows
Cross-Functional Team Orchestration & Collaboration
- Serve as a critical bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring alignment between decision needs, data capabilities, and AI solution design
- Build deep, trust-based partnerships with Commercial, Medical, GCCI, and other stakeholders, acting as an embedded decision partner rather than a downstream analytics provider
- Lead cross-functional, matrixed teams operating in agile delivery models, including Rapid deployment team focused on rapid value realization
- Translate complex AI, data, and technical concepts into clear, actionable business strategies, enabling shared understanding and effective collaboration across diverse teams
Executive Partner Management & Strategic Communication
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing strategic guidance on decision intelligence, investments, and value realization
- Communicate progress, impact, risks, and opportunities related to AI-driven decision systems through clear, compelling, and business-focused narratives
- Translate advanced AI methodologies, experimentation results, and agentic system outputs into practical business implications, OKR/KPIs, ROI when applicable, and strategic recommendations
- Drive alignment across senior stakeholders by ensuring transparency in priorities, trade-offs, and expected outcomes

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 5 years of experience in Business and Data Science (Marketing, Sales, Medical, and/or Analytics Functions)
OR
Master’s degree and 9 years of experience in Business and Data Science (Marketing, Sales, Medical, and/or Analytics Functions)
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 11 years of experience in Business and Data Science (Marketing, Sales, Medical, and/or Analytics Functions)
In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have at least 5 years experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience working directly with Commercial and/or Medical stakeholders, with a demonstrated ability to co-own business problems and shape strategic decisions in real time
- Proven track record deploying AI/ML or Agentic AI solutions into production environments within regulated industries
- Experience working with diverse, cross-domain datasets, including commercial, medical, real-world, and unstructured data sources, and integrating them into unified decision systems
- Strong experience operating in rapid deployment models, with the ability to rapidly move from problem identification to scalable solution deployment
- Strong Technical Aptitude (AI/ML): Strong conceptual and practical understanding of AI/ML technologies, with a particular emphasis on Generative AI, model development lifecycles, platform architecture, and the associated data requirements
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value narratives and actionable strategies
- Exceptional leadership and influence skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed, cross-functional environment
- Outstanding communication and storytelling capabilities, with experience engaging and influencing executive stakeholders
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to balance short-term value delivery and long-term capability building

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
