CD&A - Director US Primary Research, Cardiovascular

What you will do

The Director of US Primary Research – Cardiovascular will act as the key point of contact between the assigned Brand/Asset Teams and Commercial Data & Analytics (CD&A) insight generating functions, translating business needs into primary market research plans. As a brand-focused internal consultant, the Director of US Primary Research – Cardiovascular synthesizes insights and develops an integrated performance management plan to drive business performance and efficiency. Needing a relentless champion of insights-driven strategy, objective, evidence-based decision making, and effective and efficient commercial activity for brands within the CBU. The Director of US Primary Research – Cardiovascular will be expected to drive innovation and build business insights that give Amgen a competitive advantage.

Flexible commuter role to the Thousand Oaks, CA office. You will work on-site 2-3 days a week.

The Director of US Primary Research – Cardiovascular reports to the US Primary Research Executive Director. Job Responsibilities include:

  • Strategic leadership on insight activities like brand planning support, monthly monitors, and regular performance / strategic updates to brand leadership
  • Execution of market research plan and integration of Cardiovascular Insights across the assigned inline brands and pipeline assets
  • Oversee the primary research budget and project plan coordination for the CBU
  • Develop productive relationships with CBU commercial leadership to define primary research objectives, budgets and work plans
  • Provide leadership to connect CD&A functions across analytical research efforts in order to tell a cohesive story on brand performance and allow strategic recommendations
  • Be a strong “devil’s advocate”, even with senior commercial staff
  • Lead initiatives within US Primary Research to improve existing capabilities and develop new ones
  • Ensure that both routine and ad-hoc projects are in compliance with all Amgen SOPs and meet service-level expectations for quality, timeliness, and budget
  • Develop productive relationships with cross-functional CD&A partners, such as Global Insights, Forecasting & Competitive Intelligence, Decision Sciences, Field Excellence and Secondary Analytics
  • Regular travel required

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of experience in marketing, statistics, social, behavioral sciences, or related field of study

OR

Master’s degree and 7 years of experience in marketing, statistics, social, behavioral sciences, or related field of study

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience in marketing, statistics, social, behavioral sciences, or related field of study

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated ability to translate business questions and needs into actionable research plans and synthesize multiple data sources to answer business questions
  • Prior technical experience creating or managing KPI and performance metrics is required
  • Prior technical forecasting experience or experience managing a forecast is desirable
  • Innovation: Demonstrated ability to identify and implement new methodologies and data sources to enhance Amgen primary research capabilities
  • Strong Eye For Business: understands both the markets, brands and broader context (internal and external) of the business. Can translate market research insights and findings into realistic, actionable recommendations
  • Executive presence: can quickly establish credibility with and influence ED/VP level staff
  • Strong leadership with a demonstrated ability to build and develop hard-working teams, deliver results, and shape the future
  • Strong communication skills: capable of communicating complicated and controversial findings to commercial leadership
  • Therapeutic area experience strongly preferred
  • Managerial experience is preferred
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills with ability to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences, including senior management
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team-based environment
  • Skill in handling multiple responsibilities, priorities, tasks and projects simultaneously

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
