Amgen’s Decision Sciences team of Commercial Data and Analytics (CD&A) department is looking for an Analytics lead who possesses excellent communication skills, has the ability to engage with and influence senior stakeholders, and is able to translate analytical outputs into meaningful recommendations for these business partners.
Associate Director, Marketing Investment Optimization, will focus not only on understanding customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscape but also on making data-driven investment decisions, collaborating with the cross-functional teams (Sales, Marketing, Value & Access, Media, Forecasting, Finance etc.), to optimize marketing spend and drive maximum return on investment (ROI).
In this vital role you will collaborate with business partners, service owners and IS peers to develop predictive and prescriptive models and insights across the US Commercial Organization. This position will innovate and build business impact through the use of advanced analytical techniques to help Amgen with its mission to serve patients by helping them get the therapies they need.
Flexible Commuter role to Thousand Oaks, CA or Deerfield, IL office. You will work on-site a minimum of 2-3 days a week.
- Partner with cross functional teams on projects and/or programs to systematically derive insights that ultimately drive substantial business value for Amgen and our patients.
- Oversee building of high-performance algorithms, prototypes, predictive models and proof of concepts using Python or R.
- Identify business needs, propose and execute on analytical approaches.
- Be able to effectively communicate analysis ideas, progress and results to leadership and business partners.
- Accountable for measurement of spend efficiency and for recommendations on optimization of future spend across brands, tactics, channels, and audience types.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Media, Finance and other CD&A teams to help create marketing budgets and monitor spending to ensure cost-effectiveness and maximize ROI.
- Work closely with marketing and finance teams to analyze the financial impact of marketing initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree and 3 years of data science and/or analytics experience
OR
Master’s degree and 5 years of data science and/or analytics experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of data science and/or analytics experience
OR
Associate’s degree and 12 years of data science and/or analytics experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 14 years of data science and/or analytics experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent organization/planning skills and talent for simultaneously managing multiple large and complex projects.
- Ability to collaborate and influence collaborators, business partners and IS resources to drive analytic projects end-to-end.
- A proven track record of interpreting and communicating analytical insights to non-technical & technical partners and stakeholders using clear and concise language.
- Technical proficiency with strong logical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Passion for learning and staying on top of current developments in advanced analytics.
- Marketing Mix and/or Multi Touch Attribution experience.
- Expertise in using analytic tools such as Excel, R, SQL, Python, Tableau.
- Experience with the application of statistical estimation techniques and/or optimization techniques.
- Expertise in pharmaceutical data sets, such as prescriber-plan data, patient-level data, transactional claims, EMR/EHR data, SPP Hub data, media data, etc.
- Experience working with large datasets, experience working with distributed computing tools (Databricks, PySpark).

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
