R&D Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism - Grad Intern

What You Will Do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. During this program, you will join the Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism & Bioanalytical Sciences (PKDM-BA) group based in South San Francisco, CA. The PKDM-BA organization is dedicated to understanding the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination (ADME) properties of novel drug candidates to enable the discovery and development of innovative therapies.

The intern will work in a cross-functional team to evaluate and develop experimental workflows that characterize protein–protein interactions and target occupancy for protein therapeutics. This work will support mechanistic understanding of drug–target engagement and guide translational decision-making. Specifically, the intern will develop and apply immunoaffinity capture and/or crosslinking mass spectrometry (XL–MS) workflows to characterize protein complexes and derive quantitative readouts of target engagement.

  • Designing and testing different approaches to quantify target occupancy, including immunoaffinity capture, crosslinking mass spectrometry (XL–MS), and LC–MS–based proteomic analyses.
  • Developing and optimizing sample preparation workflows to capture protein–drug complexes from biological matrices.
  • Implementing LC–MS/MS methods for detection and quantitation of target-bound and target-unbound species.
  • Evaluating data quality and comparing performance across experimental strategies to identify robust approaches for target occupancy assessment.
  • Collaborating with PKDM scientists and cross-functional teams to integrate findings into drug discovery and development pipelines.
  • Summarizing literature, designing experiments, analyzing data, and presenting results to the scientific community within Amgen.
