National Accounts Director (NAD)
What you will do

In this vital role, the National Accounts Director (NAD), Oncology Business Unit (OBU), is a commercial leader responsible for overall national account execution across Hospital, Clinic, GPO, IDN, and Health System customer segments in support of Amgen’s OBU portfolio, including both biosimilars and innovator products.
As a member of the OBU Account Management Team (AMT) Leadership Team, this role serves as both a strategic account leader and enterprise problem solver. The NAD leads the National Accounts team, drives operational excellence within the Amgen matrix, and ensures national account strategies are aligned, customer-centric, compliant, and executed with speed and rigor.
This individual partners cross-functionally across Marketing, Trade, Contracts & Pricing, Value & Access, Legal, Brand, and other key stakeholders to develop and implement national account strategies that improve patient access and drive business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Leadership and Strategy
Serve as a leader on the OBU AMT Leadership Team.
Provide overall leadership for national accounts across GPOs, IDNs, health systems, hospitals, and clinics.
Establish GPO and national IDN leadership relationships, including influence mapping to achieve commercial objectives.
Identify opportunities and focus resources.
Present comprehensive business reviews to senior leadership, identifying drivers, barriers, insights, and commercial plans.
Strategic Problem Solving and Operational Excellence
Identify organizational inefficiencies and lead structured problem-solving initiatives to improve processes and outcomes.
Translate complex business challenges into clear frameworks that enable effective cross-functional collaboration.
Drive appropriate, compliant change within the Amgen matrix to enhance efficiency and ways of working.
Design and maintain documentation defining ways of working and roles and responsibilities across the account management ecosystem.
Strive for simplicity while maintaining the highest standards of quality, compliance, and patient safety.
Mega Accounts Governance
Serve as business unit owner of the Key Account Governance process, including:
Mega Account Deep Dives
Key Account Council
Establish structured governance and executive engagement models to strengthen strategic account oversight and coordination.
Cross-Functional Partnership (“One Amgen” Approach)
Partner closely with commercial stakeholders - Marketing, Trade, Contracts & Pricing, Contracting Operations, Contracting Membership, Value & Access, Legal, Brand Leadership, Human Resources, and the OBU General Manager.
Coordinate efforts between commercial field teams and home office functions to ensure seamless execution.
Identify and mobilize appropriate Amgen commercial resources to achieve account objectives.
Ensure full compliance in all account interactions and business decisions.
Customer Insight and Business Acumen
Represent the voice of the customer in internal strategy discussions related to contracting, pricing, and brand initiatives.
Develop deep understanding of IDN and health system economics, decision-making processes, and organizational structures.
Maintain awareness of macro healthcare trends influencing health system clinical and investment decisions.
People Leadership
The National Accounts Director leads a team of National Account Executives (NAEs) within a customer-facing model.
Leadership expectations include:
Coaching and developing a high-performing National Accounts team.
Empowering NAEs to make informed, accountable decisions.
Creating a high-trust, learning-oriented team environment.
Listening to and learning from customers to deliver urgently and safely for patients.
Utilizing rapid test-and-learn cycles to accelerate innovation and execution.
Modeling an enterprise mindset and “One Amgen” approach.
What we expect of you
We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The leader we seek will have these qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree and 4 years of commercial or equivalent operational experience
OR
Master’s degree and 8 years of commercial experience or equivalent operational experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of sales or marketing experience or equivalent operational experience
AND
Demonstrated direct people management experience and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, or programs, including responsibility for resource allocation. Leadership experience may run concurrently with the required commercial experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Account management and/or commercial leadership experience.
Healthcare sales and/or marketing experience or related experience in buying processes and decision making.
Demonstrated strategic thinking and enterprise perspective.
People leadership experience.
Creative, forward-thinking problem-solving capability.
Knowledge of IDN and health system structures, protocols, and operational dynamics.
Understanding of contracting strategy, pricing, and oncology market dynamics.
Proven ability to engage and influence C-suite and senior executives within large health systems and GPOs.
Strong analytical capabilities with ability to interpret financial and economic data.
Excellent interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
Ability to operate in a fast-paced, complex environment with multiple competing priorities.
Broad range of computer and business analytics skills.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
