What you will do

As a Senior Manager Artificial Intelligence Security, you’ll work at the intersection of science, data, and innovation. You’ll collaborate with world-class experts across domains to build high-impact digital solutions that accelerate research, streamline operations, and empower better patient outcomes. 


In this pivotal leadership role, you will lead the design, implementation, and governance of security practices for our Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) systems in Amgen. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring our AI technologies are not only resilient and secure but also follows regulatory standards, industry benchmarks, and company policies.


You will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams—including data science, cybersecurity, compliance, infrastructure, and product development—to embed security and trust into every stage of our AI systems’ lifecycle.

  • Directly responsible for designing and implementing Amgen’s strategy for securing Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems and ensuring their safe, ethical and compliant use 

  • Identify and assess threats specific to AI/ML systems, including adversarial attacks, data poisoning, and model inversion. 

  • Establish and enforce secure development practices throughout the AI/ML lifecycle—from data collection to model deployment and monitoring. 

  • Evaluate and mitigate risks related to AI usage, including data privacy, algorithmic bias, model drift, and system abuse, especially in regulated biotech environments 

  • Oversee compliance of AI workflows with healthcare and biotech regulations including HIPAA, GDPR, GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and emerging AI-specific legislation. 

  • Collaborate and respond to security incidents involving AI models or data, and coordinate investigations and mitigation efforts. 

  • Work with data governance and legal teams to ensure that training data and outputs respect user privacy and are handled securely. 

  • Implement tools and practices for monitoring, explaining, and auditing AI models to maintain trust and accountability. 

  • Coordinate adversarial testing and red teaming efforts to uncover vulnerabilities in AI systems. 

  • Oversee the security of infrastructure used for AI, including cloud services, GPU clusters, and MLOps pipelines. 

  • Develop internal policies, standards, and best practices for secure and responsible AI usage. 

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of AI security engineers and analysts, recruit, train, and mentor top talent. 

  • Partner with cybersecurity, legal, risk, and AI/ML teams to align security goals with organizational objectives. 

  • Partner with AI/ML engineers, data scientists, legal, and compliance teams to provide security guidance throughout the AI development lifecycle. 

  • Participates as domain subject matter expert in support of corporate cyber and InfoSec audit activities 

  • Define, provide, and improve measurement and analysis on the assigned services including the use of appropriate applications and tools for reporting 

  • Support and/or lead investigations involving AI system security breaches, and contribute to root cause analysis and remediation. 

  • Domestic and International travel up to 10%.

What we expect of you

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The tech professional we seek is a creative problem-solver and a team player with these qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT or a related field.

  • +5 years of experience designing, developing, or managing machine learning systems, with a solid understanding of AI pipelines. 

  • Proven expertise in cybersecurity fundamentals, including secure system design, threat modeling, cryptography, and vulnerability management. 

  • Hands-on experience implementing security for AI/ML systems used in clinical research, genomics, drug discovery, diagnostics, or digital health. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of adversarial machine learning techniques and defenses, including model evasion, poisoning, or inversion. 

  • Relevant credentials such as CISSP, CCSP, CISM, Certified AI Security Specialist, or GIAC certifications in machine learning and cloud security. 

  • Knowledge and application of responsible AI practices, AI ethics, model explainability, and governance frameworks such as NIST AI RMF or ISO/IEC 23894. 

  • Experience embedding security in MLOps pipelines and integrating AI/ML into secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes. 

  • Hands-on experience securing AI workloads on cloud platforms like AWS SageMaker, Azure Machine Learning, or Google Vertex AI. 

  • Experience with AI/ML models applied to protein folding, biomarker discovery, clinical trial optimization, or personalized medicine. 

  • Ability to incorporate threat intelligence into AI risk assessments and apply it to proactive model defense strategies. 

  • Deep understanding of HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, GDPR, and other regulations impacting AI use in healthcare and biotechnology. 

  • Expertise in securing sensitive biomedical and genomic data, including anonymization, encryption, and privacy-preserving machine learning techniques. 

  • Proven ability to collaborate across security, legal, compliance, data science, and executive teams to influence AI risk and strategy.

  • Fluency in English.
