The Senior Director, Facilities & Engineering reports to the Vice President, Engineering Operations & Services (EOS). This role provides strategic direction and hands-on leadership for facilities, utilities, and engineering services across Amgen’s portfolio, ensuring safe, reliable, compliant, and inspection-ready operations. This leadership role will oversee Facilities & Engineering services to sites in EMEA, Latin America, Asia and South East Asia.
The Senior Director is accountable for safety, quality, and regulatory compliance while driving operational performance, capital effectiveness, sustainability, and continuous improvement across multiple sites and countries. This role plays a critical leadership function in enabling manufacturing, R&D, and commercial operations through resilient infrastructure and engineering excellence.
Amgen partners with Integrated Service Providers (ISP) to deliver significant portions of facilities management, maintenance, and engineering services. The Senior Director serves as the primary regional relationship owner for ISP performance, governance, and value realization across sites, ensuring alignment with Amgen standards, regulatory expectations, and business priorities.
This role also ensures ISP and contractor compliance with EH&S, sustainability, and regulatory requirements while performing work at Amgen sites. Business continuity, crisis management, and operational resilience are core expectations of the position.
The Senior Director is responsible for attracting, retaining, and developing a diverse, high-performing regional engineering and facilities organization, while overseeing a large contingent workforce through strategic service partners.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure excellent client service across sites for Facilities Management, Engineering, Utilities, Maintenance, Technical Services, Supplier Governance, Risk Management, and Business Continuity.
Provide regional leadership for facilities and engineering operations supporting cGMP manufacturing, laboratories, and critical business functions.
Supports capital project execution across sites, including scope development, design oversight, construction, commissioning, qualification, and handover to operations.
Advance ISP partnerships and service delivery across site network; lead opportunity assessments, performance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Own regional facilities and engineering budgets, headcount, and capital planning to meet or exceed operating and financial targets.
Prioritize resources to ensure focus on highest-risk, highest-value operational and capital initiatives.
Serve as a visible and active leader in Engineering and Operations safety programs, reinforcing a strong safety culture through presence and engagement.
Drive Operational Excellence and reliability-centered maintenance strategies across facilities and utilities.
Lead sustainability and energy optimization initiatives aligned with Amgen’s environmental commitments and regional regulatory requirements.
Provide leadership during incidents, disruptions, and crisis response events, ensuring rapid recovery and regulatory readiness.
Partner closely with Quality, EHS, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, and Site Leadership to ensure inspection readiness and compliant operations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate degree and 6 years of Engineering experience OR
Master’s degree and 10 years of Engineering experience OR
Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of Engineering experience
AND6 years of direct managerial and/or leadership experience in regulated environments
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive leadership experience in Facilities & Engineering within regulated pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences environments.
Demonstrated success leading multi-site or regional engineering and facilities organizations across regions in scope.
Proven experience managing capital programs, utilities, and critical infrastructure in cGMP environments.
Strong track record of leading transformative change, driving operational efficiency, and improving asset reliability.
Continuous improvement mindset with experience simplifying processes, leveraging digital tools, and optimizing service delivery models.
Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external service providers in complex, matrixed organizations.
Proven capability to communicate effectively with senior leaders, regulators, and cross-functional teams.
Experience navigating cultural, regulatory, and operational differences across countries.
Strong change leadership skills with the ability to lead through ambiguity and complexity.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Finance preferred.
