EXTERNAL SCIENTIFIC RELATIONS SENIOR MANAGER (ELMAC REGION)

WHAT YOU WILL DO
In this vital role you will lead External Scientific Relations and Scientific Communications plans, programs, events, and scientific resources across multiple products within Rare Disease in the ELMAC region (the ELMAC region covers Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and Canada). The External Scientific Relations Senior Manager provides regional input and helps drive scientific engagement, digital communications, and innovative external-facing medical initiatives and standalone meetings in collaboration with global, affiliate, and cross-functional teams in the ELMAC region.
The responsibilities of the role will include:
- Contributes to global and affiliate scientific communication and external scientific relations strategy through scientific expertise, understanding of the clinical and competitive landscape, and appropriate use of innovative channels for delivery of medical and scientific content.
- Leads planning and execution of the multi-country medical education events in the ELMAC region, including speaker/faculty and invitee selection, on-site execution, and impact measurement (including metrics and insights) ensuring alignment with product strategy, medical priorities, and regional needs.
- Reviews and provides input on Global Medical Content (GMC), as applicable, and helps localize or adapt content for ELMAC Scientific Communication needs.
- In partnership with the Global and Regional Medical Affairs team, leads the ELMAC strategy for congress deliverables, tactics, and activities, including booth presence, booth content creation, medical symposium planning and execution, field medical training, and development of engagement tactics for the target audience.
- Provides input and supports the development and implementation of innovative/digital communication formats and channels to enhance scientific exchange with external stakeholders.
- In partnership with Medical leads, drives scientific content development for ELMAC R&D advisory boards.
- Selects and manages external agencies and vendors supporting standalone events, symposium logistics, and related Scientific Communication activities.
- Collaborates with Scientific Communications colleagues for medical content development.
- Ensures appropriate project prioritization and resource allocation to meet program goals on time and within budget.
- Ensures alignment with key internal stakeholders (Global Customer Capabilities & Innovation; Global and Regional Compliance; Global Business Transaction Center – Contracting and Finance; Global Service Center) to implement medical activities in a way that is aligned with internal policies and processes and external guidelines and best practices.
- Supports product-dedicated International Medical Directors (IMDs) with development of regional strategy and tactics, organization of advisory boards, country medical support, or medical performance measurables.
Some travel may be required - approximately 10-20%.

WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU
We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. What we seek in you as an experienced professional, are these qualifications and skills:
- PharmD, PhD, MD, or DO with 5 or more years of relevant experience in clinical research, patient care, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, and/or basic research (other doctorate degrees may be considered)
- Prior experience in Medical Affairs, Scientific Communications, External Scientific Relations, or Clinical Development within the biopharmaceutical industry, and/or clinical or research experience in rare disease
- Prior experience leading projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
- An understanding of the pharmaceutical commercialization process and knowledge of ELMAC regulatory and legal guidelines affecting promotion of prescription products
- Aptitude in writing, reviewing, and presenting scientific and clinical data for external scientific audiences
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational, time management, and project planning skills with strong ability for self-direction
- Demonstrated track record of strategic execution in a matrix environment with limited supervision
- The ability to work in teams and interface in a dynamic environment across corporate functions
- Understanding of disease landscape and clinical data to enable critical analysis of scientific literature and communicate implications cross-functionally
- Prior experience successfully managing consultants, agencies, and vendors across scientific communication and event-related activities
- Strong computer and database skills, particularly with Microsoft Office products
