India - Hyderabad Apply NowThe Tax Manager – U.S. Direct – Tax Reporting manages a team of six Tax Associates supporting U.S. tax compliance and reporting within the India Global Capability Center (GCC). The Manager oversees day-to-day work allocation, deliverable quality, timelines, and team development across assigned U.S. federal, international, and state and local tax workstreams.
The Manager reports to the India-based Senior Manager and partners with them on team management, operating priorities, and performance. Working with the Senior Manager and U.S.-based tax stakeholders, the Manager helps ensure accurate and timely execution of tax deliverables, provides technical guidance to the team, raises issues promptly, and identifies opportunities to improve processes and controls.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Tax Manager – U.S. Direct – Tax Reporting will be responsible for the following activities, among others:
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of six Tax Associates, setting clear expectations, assigning work, providing regular feedback, and supporting performance and career development in partnership with the Senior Manager.
- Coordinate with the Senior Manager on team priorities, workload, capacity, coverage, and development needs, and support consistent management of the India tax team.
- Plan and monitor the team’s day-to-day deliverables across assigned U.S. federal, international, and state and local tax compliance and reporting workstreams.
- Review work prepared by Tax Associates and provide timely feedback to help ensure deliverables are accurate, complete, well-supported, and submitted on schedule.
- Coordinate with U.S.-based tax stakeholders to clarify requirements, align on deliverable timelines, and address routine questions; promptly escalate significant technical, timing, or control issues to the Senior Manager.
- Prepare selected complex U.S. tax compliance schedules, calculations, and supporting analyses, and review related work prepared by Tax Associates, including quarterly tax calculations and reporting schedules, as assigned.
- Coordinate assigned Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) activities, including support for Form 8975 and related deliverables, and help maintain the associated review process and documentation.
- Oversee the team’s work supporting annual reports for U.S. legal entities and business license renewals, coordinating with external providers and U.S. stakeholders as needed.
- Maintain and reinforce operating controls, documentation standards, and established procedures within assigned workstreams.
- Identify and recommend opportunities to streamline processes, standardize work, and use automation or analytics tools to improve efficiency and quality.
- Build the team’s technical capability through ongoing coaching, knowledge-sharing, and practical guidance on U.S. corporate tax principles.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA), U.S. CPA, or equivalent qualification.
- 8 -12 years of relevant U.S. Federal Corporate Tax compliance—ideally within a multinational or Big Four firm.
- Relevant experience in U.S. corporate tax compliance or reporting, including experience reviewing tax work.
- Working knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax requirements and exposure to U.S. international tax reporting.
- Experience guiding or supervising team members, preferably in a shared services or Global Capability Center environment.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with tax software and ERP systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Big Four public accounting experience or an in-house tax role at a multinational company.
- Exposure to ASC 740, Country-by-Country Reporting, and U.S. legal entity reporting requirements.
- Experience with tax platforms such as CorpTax, OneSource, or GoSystem and ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
- Familiarity with U.S. international tax regimes, R&D tax credit issues, or state and local tax compliance.
- Experience with process automation or analytics tools such as Alteryx or Tableau.
