ABOUT THE ROLE
Role Description:
Amgen is seeking a Specialist Software Engineer to contribute to designing, building, maintaining, analyzing, and interpreting data to provide actionable insights that drive business decisions. This role involves working front end technologies such as React/JavaScript, .NET and HTML/CSS. Additionally, experience in developing API, proficiency in using API and working with large datasets, developing data pipelines, supporting and executing data governance initiatives and visualizing data to ensure data is accessible, reliable, and efficiently managed. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills and experience with MuleSoft, Databricks, Airflow and AWS.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Design and build scalable web applications with rich, responsive front-end interfaces using frameworks like React, .NET Angular, or Vue.
- Develop robust and secure back-end services and APIs using Node.js, Python, or similar server-side technologies.
- Architect and manage data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and storage using tools like Apache Airflow, Spark, Kafka, or dbt.
- Work with structured and unstructured data in SQL and NoSQL databases
- Design and implement ETL/ELT workflows, data warehousing solutions, and ensure data quality, integrity, and lineage.
- Integrate AI dataset into products and services as part of agentic workflows collaborating with Data Scientists/UI Engineers or leveraging APIs like OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.
- Develop intelligent features like recommendation engines, smart assistants, code generation, or predictive analytics.
- Apply AI-enhanced developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI test generation, automated code review tools) to boost productivity and quality.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for deploying full-stack and data solutions in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Ensure system reliability, observability, and performance through proper monitoring and logging.
- Follow and advocate for clean code, modular design, and best practices in both software and data engineering.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (product, design, data science, QA) to deliver impactful features.
- Continuously explore and apply emerging AI and data technologies to accelerate development and improve user experience.
Basic Qualifications and Experience:
- Doctorate Degree OR
- Master’s degree with 4 - 6 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field OR
- Bachelor’s degree with 6 - 8 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field OR Diploma with 10 - 12 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field
Functional Skills:
Must-Have Skills
- Good experience with React.js,
- Knowledge of component-based architecture and reusable UI patterns.
- Experience with ASP.NET MVC / .NET Core for building and integrating UI components
- Hands-on experience with big data technologies and platforms, such as Databricks, Apache Spark (PySpark, SparkSQL), workflow orchestration, performance tuning on big data processing
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (eg. SQL) and experience with data visualization tools
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with large, complex datasets
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, tools, and best practices.
- Knowledge of data protection regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
Good-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with ETL tools such as Apache Spark, and various Python packages related to data processing, machine learning model development
- Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration concepts
- Knowledge of AnyPoint Platform, Python/R, Databricks, SageMaker, Airflow, AWS cloud data platforms
- Proficiency in using AI tools such as Co-Pilot, Databricks Assistant, and other AI tools
Professional Certifications
- AI Associate or Professional
- Certified Associate or Professional Data Engineer / Data Analyst (preferred on Databrick)
- Certified AWS Professional or Associate certification (preferred)
Soft Skills:
