As a Mgr Sfiware Development Engineering at Amgen, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining software applications to meet business needs. You will collaborate with a team of software engineers, participate in the full software development life cycle, and ensure the delivery of high-quality code and solutions. Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable applications and integrations—primarily for Sample Manager LIMS.
- Perform hands-on LIMS development involving C# scripting, VGL programming, workflow design, instrument integration, reporting, and data model customization within Sample Manager LIMS.
- Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to gather requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and build validated technical solutions.
- Support Agile/DevOps activities including code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and deployment processes for LIMS enhancements.
- Troubleshoot complex LIMS issues, optimize workflows, and contribute to continuous improvement to enhance system performance, user experience, and data integrity.

Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and extend Sample Manager LIMS to support QC laboratory workflows, ensuring high-quality, validated solutions aligned with regulatory expectations.
- Develop custom modules, scripts, workflows, and integration interfaces for Sample Manager LIMS using C#, VGL, and associated LIMS development tools.
- Work closely with cross-functional technical teams to build and integrate LIMS with data lakes, instruments, inventory systems, and other enterprise platforms.
- Participate in validation activities as a developer: support creation and review of technical specs, test scripts, data mapping, and defect resolution.
- Maintain technical documentation including configuration specs, design documents, interface documentation, and development guides.
- Evaluate Sample Manager LIMS product updates/releases, assess technical impact, and implement new features or enhancements.
- Support investigation and resolution of technical incidents, deviations, and LIMS-related issues while maintaining compliance with GxP and 21 CFR Part 11.
- Drive innovation in laboratory digital solutions by recommending optimizations, automation opportunities, and modern development practices.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and actively support DevOps/CI/CD processes for LIMS.
Basic Qualifications
Master's degree
OR
Bachelor's degree and 8 – 12 years of Information Science experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of direct hands-on experience with Thermo Fisher Sample Manager LIMS.
- Strong practical expertise in C#, VGL scripting, LIMS workflow development, and laboratory application integration.
- Strong understanding of:
- GxP compliance
- 21 CFR Part 11 requirements
- Validation
- Data integrity
- SDLC and change control processes
- Proven experience developing and validating LIMS solutions in regulated (GxP, FDA, EMA) environments.
- Experience integrating Sample Manager LIMS into broader Operations, R&D, and IT ecosystems (e.g., inventory systems, data warehouses).
- Familiarity with scientific workflows (biologics, chemistry, lab processes) and ability to translate them into digital LIMS workflows.
- Hands-on technical skills with SQL, Python, AWS, and APIs supporting automation, data workflows, and system integration.
- Knowledge of DevOps/Agile practices, release management, and collaboration with vendor and platform teams.
- Strong communication skills to translate business needs into technical solutions and ensure alignment on deliverables.
