Director, Business Excellence & Portfolio Operations

What youwill do

The Directoris responsible foradvancing operational excellence across Process Developmentand Operationsby enabling effective program execution and management, resource planning, and digital process improvements. This rolewillpartner closely withproject management,scientific, operational, and digital teams to improve howProcessDevelopmentand Product Delivery Teamsplanandadvancepipelinedeliverables.

The Director will oversee a team responsible for project management, portfolio and resource management, and digital process enablement. The scope of support spansfromearlystagedevelopmentthrough commercialization to launch andpatient impact expansion opportunities.

This leader will work closely with Process Development (PD) functional leadersandOperationsTherapeutic Area Headsto ensure clear planning, integrated execution, and visibility into portfolio progress, whileidentifyingopportunities to streamline processes, deploy digital tools, and automate workflows that improve team productivity and decision-making.In addition, the Director will partner across Operations, Research, and Digital/IT teams toidentifyoperational improvements, implement digital capabilities, and enhance portfolio management practices that enableProduct Delivery Teamsto deliver programs efficiently and at scale.

• Lead and develop a high-performing teamincluding supporting development of key talent, serving as a mentor, and strengtheningorganizational capability in portfolio management, operational excellence, and digital enablement

• Ensure full integration and alignment with functional leadsand Product Delivery Teamsacross regions.

• Enable effective program and portfolio executionby providing support to key stakeholders and Product DeliveryTeamstoeffectively trackintegrated plans,key milestones, andinsightsin an aligned and transparent manner.

• Drive resource planning and operational efficiencyby advancing tools andidentifyingsolutions tosupport scenarioassessments of resource capacity across the portfolio 

• Establish scalable processes and tools that improve planning, forecasting, and visibility into team capacity

• Advanceand championdigital transformation and process improvementeffortsby partnering with stakeholders in Process Developmentand OperationstoIdentify opportunities to improve ways of workingand partnering to integrate solutions into business processes

• Work in Planisware, MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint,SmartSheets, and MS Teams

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Doctorate degree & 4 years of project/portfolio management, engineering, and/or life sciences experience  

OR

• Master’s degree & 8 years of project/portfolio management, engineering, and/or life sciences experience  

OR

• Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of project/portfolio management, engineering, and/or life sciences experience  

AND

• 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience inOperationsDrug Development (Process Development, Tech Operations, CMC, etc.)

• Experience in project and portfolio management in the pharmaceutical, contract manufacturingor biotechindustry

• Strategic experience to support optimization of timelines and resources within budget 

• Technical understanding of biopharmaceutical and small molecule pharmaceuticalproductand process development, manufacturing,qualityand supply chain

• Strong knowledge and willingness to learn digital and planning tools. Ability to connect digital technology toimpactOperations and Process Developmentcore business processes.Experience with Planisware.

• Experience driving process improvements through operations excellence and continuous improvement ways of thinking (i.e.six sigma, kaizen principles)

• Thoughtleadership experience and the ability to build immediate credibility with the senior management team and the organization. This includesthe facilitating ofdiscussions and promoting collaboration across multipleparties;engaging in dialogue to reach a conclusion together, compromising as necessary foroptimalresults in alignment with the Amgen values and leadership attributes

• Ability to work with the business to understand and address the underlying business needs

• Ability to adopt a big picture view and craft compelling strategies

• Excellent critical and analytical thinking with strong attention to detail

• Ability to communicate complex technical topics to diverse audiences
