Meet Our People
“I’m an Executive Director in the Regulatory affairs function, based in Uxbridge, leading the oncology therapeutic area. This involves working with a team of talented staff to navigate our products through the complex regulatory framework in Europe, with the ultimate aim of bringing our medicines to patients. Maximizing the full potential of our pipeline requires close collaboration with multiple teams who share the common goal of serving patients.
In addition to ensuring the successful development of the pipeline, I’m also an active member of ‘Amgen’s Full Potential’- a global programme designed to improve a wide range of areas across Amgen – through supporting our patient centricity efforts to best integrate the patient voice in all that we do.
In the UK we have recently launched an employee engagement programme, called Connect. I am fortunate that, in addition to my ‘day-job,’ I am also a member of the leadership team which, along with numerous volunteers across our business, is working to build an inspired employee community in the UK. My particular focus is to raise awareness of our commitment to our patients, our science, our approach to corporate and social responsibility.
I enjoy being part of the culture at Amgen, learning about the advances in science working with talented colleagues, and being able to contribute to the diversity of opportunities and challenges that arise from bringing new medicines to market.”
——Shagufta Ahmad, Executive Director, European Regulatory Affairs
“I am a Business Unit Director at Amgen responsible for General Medicine which includes cardiovascular disease, bone and nephrology therapy areas. I lead the sales and marketing teams within the UK working with our customers to ensure all appropriate patients can benefit from Amgen’s medicines.
As a science graduate I always had a fascination with the emerging world of biotechnology, the science of using living cells to make biologic medicines. I joined Amgen because it was the leader in this field, deeply rooted in the scientific innovation that transforms new ideas and discoveries into medicines that serve patients with serious illness. My first role was within the commercial marketing team as a Senior Manager. Since then I have been supported to develop a breadth of skills and experience. In particular I was fortunate to have the opportunity to build and lead a local Value, Access and Policy team to address the changing healthcare environment. Having enjoyed my time in various parts of the business I am now very much focusing on growing our business further.
There are many things I love about working at Amgen – the people, the culture, the focus on innovation. Amgen for me is a place where you can really make a difference. If you have ideas about how we can live our mission to ‘better serve our patients’ you are listened to and more often than not you have the chance to make the idea a reality!”
——Charlie Galvin, Business Unit Director, UK & Ireland Marketing
