PRINCIPAL, ENGINEERING - ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. This is a position that offers a unique opportunity to participate in the Amgen Inc. Sustainability programs. The successful candidate will undertake varied projects assigned to develop, implement, manage, and monitor aspects of the Sustainability program.

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Engineering - Environmental Sustainability, the successful candidate is responsible for the implementation, coordination and advancement of existing and emerging Sustainability programs and initiatives. The principal function is to analyze, set strategy and implement Sustainability program initiatives. The position will drive program implementation necessary to provide transparent reporting to meet external customer expectations to promote a positive company image. The successful candidate will contribute to broader Sustainability initiatives by collaborating with Amgen business units, site, and functional committees to deliver results through influence and communicating effectively with clients. The successful candidate will work out of our corporate campus in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support practical program development and management necessitated by emerging expectation and program priority, including ES regulations response, climate risk, circular economy and biodiversity.

• In partnership with multi-functional teams, support Amgen’s ES responses to new Global regulations, including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, the EU Taxonomy Regulation, California SB219, and other future promulgations.

• Working with global sites and functions, manage an enterprise-level climate scenario analysis, risk assessment and quantification program to ensure alignment with new regulations.

• Manage ES voluntary disclosures, including CDP reporting.

• Manage the purchase of renewable electricity and high-quality carbon offsets, including the execution of Power Purchase Agreements.

• Track biodiversity developments such as TNFD and SBTN and help prepare Amgen for alignment.

• Provide insights and progress reports to functions across Amgen, including executive leadership, and externally as needed.

• Participate in external forums and working groups, representing Amgen as a subject matter expert.

• Advance integration of Sustainability into Amgen’s business and advancing Amgen’s Sustainability Culture

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree in Engineering or Science and 2 years of corporate services, engineering, or science experience OR

• Master’s degree in Engineering or Science and 4 years of corporate services, engineering, or science experience OR

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science and 6 years of corporate service, engineering, or science experience OR

• Associate’s degree in Engineering or Science and 10 years of corporate service, engineering, or science experience OR

• High school diploma / GED and 12 years of corporate service, engineering or science experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Passion and interest in environmental sustainability.

• Master’s degree in a relevant field.

• Experience interpreting local, national and cross-border regulations.

• Demonstrated strategic thinking and strategy development/deployment experience.

• Technical depth and strong multi-functional collaboration.

• Risk analysis and financial quantification expertise, across different ES topics.

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

• Highly organized with exceptional project management skills.

• Knowledge of engineering principles to resolve attainable usage reductions / savings for conservation measures.

• Experience or capacity to quickly understand industrial, laboratory, manufacturing, and building environments / technologies.

• Strong written and oral communication skills, relationship building, and leadership skills.

• Self-starter with the ability to concurrently manage several projects or assignments.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
